Our History
NONPROFIT
Proudly Assisting the Seniors (PATS) is a new company. It was developed to provide financial assistance that supports the independence, health, and well-being of seniors (age 60+) in the city of Detroit. Many seniors struggle financially with rising housing and health care bills, inadequate nutrition, lack of access to transportation, diminished savings, and job loss. Our aim is to improve the quality of life and prevent suffering by helping low-income seniors who are experiencing financial hardships.
PATS is a privately held domestic nonprofit corporation. It is a public charity under the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501 (c) (3).
PATS Serves
Who
Recipients of PATS resources are seniors (60+), who find themselves in a financial crisis. The aim is to improve the quality of life and prevent suffering by helping low-income seniors who are experiencing financial hardships remain active, healthy, and living independently in their communities. PATS will provide short term limited financial assistance with things such as housing costs (repairs, rent, mortgages, utilities, and taxes), food, clothing, medical and transportation.
Other services that will be provided may include counseling for recipients. As well as financial assistance with budget development.
Why
Most seniors these days are living on limited incomes from sources that may include social security, a small pension or maybe some other form of government assistance. Among Detroit’s seniors, 20% live below the poverty line. The average retirement income per household receiving it in Detroit is $19,850.
PATS was established to help improve the quality of life and prevent suffering for low-income seniors (age 60+) in Detroit by providing short term limited financial assistance to seniors experiencing financial hardships, in order for them to live healthy, independent and fulfilling lives.
We believe, no one should ever have to choose between having food to eat, paying the utility bill, paying the rent, or purchasing their vitally needed medical supplies, issues which many seniors are experiencing.
